On November 9, 2021 I got to play at my first GCYS concert. The order of our concert is Symphony No. 29 Allegro Moderato by Mozart, Lady Radnor Suite Prelude by Parry, Psalm and Fugue by Hovhaness and Waltz from “Masquerade Suite” by Khachaturian/trans. Latham. In the first piece, my favorite part was from measure 77 to measure 105 or the very ending of the pieces. I enjoyed these sections because they had scaler sections followed by long quarter notes or in the case of the ending, they provided a challenge for me. Than for Lady Radnor Suite Prelude, my favorite section was the beginning. This piece was the most challenging for myself due to the chords and the changing note types. Psalm and Fugue was my second favorite piece due to its slow tempo and because it had several viola melodies – which happens almost never! The Psalm is a nice and slow section with beautiful rhythms and almost scaler like patterns. The Fugue than picks up the pace and adds in more accidentals which makes it more challenging but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Finally, my favorite piece, the Waltz. The piece was truly energetic and had an almost mysterious sound to it. The most challenging spot and my favorite was from measure 145 to measure 177. Overall the experience was something which I will never forget.
